BODY TALE

BODY TALE is a performance series created by five dancers of Richard Siegal / Ballet of Difference at Schauspiel Köln. In collaboration with Tanz Köln, the Kolumba Art Museum in Cologne invited the dancers to create performance concepts inspired by its art and architectur. Based on the exhibition DAS KLEINE SPIEL ZWISCHEN DEM ICH UND DEM MIR - KUNST UND CHOREOGRAFIE, the five dancers - Black Pearl De Almeida, Mason Manning, Margarida Neto, Evan Supple and Long Zou - explored the idea of the body and what it can potentially reveal.
The result of months of choreographic exploration and research at the Kolumba Museum and the studios of Schauspiel Köln, the work reveals different narratives and multiple ways of moving through a story:
Mason Manning creates a visual and vocal language to mediate between attempts at manipulation within an experimental architectural arrangement.
Margarida Isabel De Abreu Neto plays and interacts with the art of Richard Tuttle, bringing the images on the walls to life in a humorous alternate reality.
Long Zou makes contact with the past and brings it into the present in a fleeting, touching adaptation of Michel Fokine's THE DYING SWAN.
Evan Supple answers the philosophical question of what constitutes art with a video installation of a formalized dance solo.
Black Pearl de Almeida Lima takes up space where some existences must be non-cooperative to assert their presence in a world of exclusions.
BODY TALE ist eine Tanzreihe, die von fünf Tänzer*innen des Richard Siegal/Ballet of Difference am Schauspiel Köln kreiert wurde. In Kollaboration mit Tanz Köln lud das Kölner Kolumba die Tänzer*innen dazu ein, das Museum zu bespielen, sich von dessen Kunst und Architektur inspirieren zu lassen und seine Räume mit Tanz zu füllen. Ausgehend von der Ausstellung DAS KLEINE SPIEL ZWISCHEN DEM ICH UND DEM MIR – KUNST UND CHOREOGRAFIEsetzten sich die fünf Tänzer*innen – Black Pearl De Almeida, Mason Manning, Margarida Neto, Evan Supple und Long Zou – mit der Idee des Körpers und dem, was er möglicherweise offenbaren kann, auseinander.
Als Ergebnis monatelanger choreografischer Erkundungen und Recherchen im Kolumba Museum und in den Studios des Schauspiel Köln werden unterschiedliche Erzählungen und vielfältige Wege gezeigt, wie man sich durch eine Geschichte bewegen kann:
Mason Manning erschafft eine visuelle und vokale Sprache, um zwischen Manipulationsversuchen innerhalb einer architektonischen Versuchsanordnung zu vermitteln.
Margarida Isabel De Abreu Neto spielt und interagiert mit der Kunst von Richard Tuttle und erweckt die Bilder an den Wänden in einer humoristischen alternativen Wirklichkeit zum Leben.
Long Zou stellt Kontakt zur Vergangenheit her und holt sie in einer flüchtigen, berührenden Adaption von Michel Fokines DER STERBENDE SCHWAN in die Gegenwart.
Evan Supple beantwortet die philosophische Frage, was Kunst ausmacht, mit einer Videoinstallation eines formalisierten Tanz-Solos.
Black Pearl de Almeida Lima nimmt dort Raum ein, wo manche Existenzen nicht-kooperativ sein müssen, um ihre Anwesenheit in einer Welt voller Ausgrenzungen geltend zu machen.
